Reflections of Us: A Celebration of Black History Through Art / Tuesday, February 25 & Wednesday, February 26 at 3:30 p.m.

Intercultural Center

Step into a powerful visual journey at Reflections of Us, a special art viewing presented by the SMC Intercultural Center in collaboration with the SMC Museum of Art (MoA). This event highlights captivating works by Black contemporary artists, offering a deep reflection on Black history, culture, and identity.

Curated from the museum’s permanent collection, the featured artworks showcase the diverse experiences, narratives, and creative expressions of Black artists throughout history. Each piece tells a story—celebrating the richness of Black culture and the profound impact it has on art, society, and beyond.

Join us for two afternoons of connection and reflection, where art becomes a lens through which we honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future. This event is a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and strength of Black artistry in an intimate setting.

Art Crawl / March 8 at 1 p.m.

Join us for the second annual art crawl!

Here's how it works!

To begin, meet at the SMCMoA at 1 p.m. Bring your own artist's materials and sketchpad. This can be pencils, ink, watercolor, charcoal, etc. Artists will select a place on campus to sketch for 20 minutes; after the first 20 minutes, they will move to a new location and start a second sketch, then a third location for another 20 minutes and a third sketch. Artists will meet at the museum to share the three sketches at 2 p.m.

This program is best suited for 12 and up. Free and open to all.

Ensemble Assemblage /  Mar 8 / Apr 11 / May 3 at 3 p.m.

Ensemble Assemblage brings forward Desiree Sturrock’s (SMCMoA student assistant) senior music capstone project. Saint Mary's artists—musicians Adanna Ogu (voice + guitar), Reeya Dharmadhikari (voice), and Sara Karkal (violin), alongside dancers Cadence Godwin, Lu Price, Izzie Rollins, and Erica Hardy—will collaborate and perform through music and movement to respond to work from the exhibition Isole: A Voyage Among My Dreams.

The ensemble will select a painting, a related poem for inspiration, and lyrics for each performance. The composition will take shape around those elements as the artists explore the relationship between creativity and their ability to channel it through instruments (physical, vocal, or our bodies). Through this work, Ensemble Assemblage seeks to de-stigmatize artistry through multidisciplinary, improvisatory performance.
